Sharepoint provides RESTful services to be consumed, and SMP also supports RESTful webservices.
For SMP, Sharepoint is a backend server which is providing services. you just need to create odata model in SMP server and consume services in the applications.
How you are able to conclude sharepoint is not supported via SMP. Is there any referance?
