Hi Sangeetha,
Have you considered building a Date hierarchy and leveraging that in the input controls. You would be able to filter it to the level of Year/Quarter/Month and not against numerous days.
As you mentioned there are lot of charts and reporting involved, I would stick to out of the box features which have better compatibility with the future upgrades and export options.
