ABAP Encryption with known algorithm

Hi Experts,

I'm trying to communicate with a third party from an ABAP program (no SAP PI is involved) and I need to encrypt the data before sending it to the third party. Therefore, I will need to do an encryption in the ABAP program using a well-known algorithm (I'm not an expert in cryptography but perhaps with algorithm such as AES, 3DES, etc..) so that the third party knows how to decrypt the message once they received it.

Is this possible? Do I need to generate a certificate for this?
