Hello Karhi,
There are two things here: About the process and its Significance in PM.
- Though I am not a user of WBS in PM, my understanding about its use in PM is mainly for Budget accounting purposes. Go through this post which gives some idea both about purpose and the process.Plant Maintenance Budget using - WBS Element. Also go through this link for some tcodes and Settlement rules: Settlement Rule For a WBS Element
- Also refer to this sap help Assignment of PM/CS Orders to Projects where links provided for Settings in PM as well as Settings in PS.
- The main tcode for this is CJ20N,the Project Builder where you create the Project Definition and the different WBS elements.
- From PM perspective, I always looked this function as a tool to address major repair event of an installation, where many Orders are involved under different sub events. The event becomes the Project Definition and the sub-events could become WBS elements to which respective Maintenance Orders are assigned.
- You have Gantt chart like Planning Board facility for graphical representation of activites.
- I remember there is something about spares planning also in WBS. You can procure spare parts against a WBS element which will be issued to that only.
- Few things about PM WBS concepts touched upon here:Conceptual Enterprise Asset Management for Plant Construction Process
